Aliens from Another Realm
Alien beings are living here on the earth among us at this time. A people from another kingdom, another realm of reality, walk among us, live next door, and teach our children in the schools. Masquerading as insurance salesman, automobile mechanics, doctors, dentists, grocery checkers, and maybe even your babysitter. Supernatural beings are a large segment of the population.
Those aliens who have their citizenship elsewhere and walk among us, often undetected, are followers of Jesus Christ. We, as believers, are those aliens in this world. Our true citizenship is in another Kingdom, a realm that is unseen but far more real than that which our natural eyes perceive.
We are spirit beings living temporarily in earthly bodies, clothed in flesh, but longing to walk in the Kingdom reality of our true heritage. We are here as ambassadors to a fallen world called and empowered to do supernatural demonstrations as Jesus and His disciples did 2000 years ago. We are foreigners, aliens just passing through.
The Kingdom is at Hand
Jesus announced when He came to this world that, "the Kingdom of heaven is at hand." This, I believe, was not merely a reference to Himself being the King of heaven and the earth and Messiah.
He demonstrated that the reality of the unseen heavenly Kingdom was at hand, by performing signs, wonders, and miracles. He actually reached into that unseen kingdom and brought it into this earthly realm. He accessed that heavenly realm by faith, and brought that Kingdom reality into this earthly realm.
He was showing the world that the unseen realm was indeed close at hand. "At hand" is right at the end of our arms about 30 inches from our shoulders.
It is all around us every second of every day. If you thrust your hand forward it can pierce through into that spiritual realm. Occasionally, that heavenly realm breaks through into this earthly realm and often takes us quite by surprise when that occurs. Yet we are called, as the supernatural beings that we were created to live our lives walking in this Kingdom realm.
Divine Multiplication of Food
Several years ago during a period of supernatural visitations throughout the Christian church, commonly referred to as a "time of renewal" or the "Toronto Blessing," I experienced a remarkable breaking in of the Kingdom realm in a way that I would have never expected.
A friend who I was sharing residence with and I had incited three women friends over to attend church with us for a Sunday evening service. The meetings had been very alive with the presence of God being tangibly manifest for many weeks prior. My friend and I had sat in our living room in the afternoon as we waited for our company to arrive.
We were playing worship CDs and praying occasionally as we waited to prepare for a great time of fellowship with friends. As we worshipped and prayed, a sweet presence enveloped us and we became acutely aware that the Holy Spirit had elected to honor us with His presence in a powerful way. We seemed to be surrounded by love and peace and warmth, that became quite intoxicating after a bit.
Praises began to pour from our lips and we were compelled to worship even more fervently. We had eventually got down on the floor in reverence and awe.
When our friends arrived at our home, this awesome presence was so strong that that they compelled almost immediately to enter into the worship and enjoy wonderful communion with God along with us. After a brief period all five of us were on the floor, some kneeling, some lying prostrate. Everyone was overcome with the goodness of God manifesting in our midst. We began laughing at one point when joy seemed to spill out of heaven over us like a holy intoxicating oil.
Hours passed quickly and it was time that we should have left for the restaurant as we had planned. However no one was interested in leaving that Holy presence and everyone elected to skip dinner and remain in that rarified atmosphere and just enjoy being so near to God.
A couple of hours later I alerted everyone, that it was time to leave for the service if, indeed, they still wanted to go. Again they passed on that idea, just as they had passed on dinner. We continued to bask in the manifestation of that Divine love, being poured out upon us lavishly.
It became so late that I was concerned about our guests having been with us for so many hours without having eaten. Still no one was interested in going anywhere.
We were not prepared to cook a meal for them, as we had planned to do that in a local restaurant. So nothing had been thawed or was even available to cook on such short notice.
I began to rummage through the pantry and fridge in search of something to offer. The best that I could do was to gather up just a few crackers, maybe 14 or 15, about 18 or 20 red grapes or even less, and less than 2 ounces of cheddar cheese. All tolled, it was barely a snack for 1 person and only a token gesture for five adults. I arranged the few slices of cheese, crackers and grapes on small plates attempting to be as hospitable as possible, by offering a meager snack at least.
Everyone placed a tiny bit of food on their plate, being very aware of how little food there was to share with five people. We ate the little bit and everyone went back for a second and then a third helping and even more. We continued to eat until we were satisfied and there were still more crackers, grapes and cheese left on the plates when we had finished.
God had miraculously multiplied the food as we had eaten our fill. Amazing as it was there nearly as much left as what we had initially served.
This amazing experience seemed quite natural as heaven had broken into this earthly realm and intervened in our behalf. We had not prayed or even asked for this multiplication. We had merely basked in His presence and focused on His goodness and gazed at His beauty. We were so captivated by God we were simply not interested in anything else.
He, in turn, blessed us in an incredible way with the in-breaking of heaven in our midst, an unexpected sign and wonder. It was a moment that we will always treasure, yet we have no formula, no model, no magical prayer to initiate another such breakthrough.
It was more about relationship, I believe, than about anything else. God blessed us with His beautiful presence. We blessed Him by our eagerness to receive Him in this remarkable way. He blessed us back by multiplying food, demonstrating His generosity and unsolicited kindness, and His magnificent power and grace. He demonstrated to us through a sign and wonder how close at hand the Kingdom realm really is.
This was a truly spontaneous in-breaking of the realm of the Kingdom into this earthly realm that evening. There was no petitioning, no pleading for such a Divine provision, nor did we even entertain a faithful expectation of such a miracle. The fact is we never thought about it. We merely offered the little we had and continued to seek first to remain in that relational place with our our Lord.
He added unto us without any prompting, just as He promises to in the Scriptures when we seek Him and His kingdom first. Jesus was exhorting His disciples to refrain from worrying about having food or clothing or any practical need met. In that same context, regarding these very issues, He encouraged them to, "Seek first the Kingdom of God and all these things will be given unto you." ~Matthew 6:33
Consider for a moment how very naturally this heavenly Kingdom in-breaking occurred. Does this not give us some indication how very near we really are to accessing that Kingdom? Does it not demonstrate how entwined the two kingdoms might actually be?
It was so readily available at that moment of need. It was not in any way even an emergency. It was a simple and practical need. Yet as we consecrated our focus and desires on Him, the hand, that dwells in the eternal, reached into the temporal with a blessing for His kids.
My firm belief is, that our loving God is eager to open the thin veil between these two realms, that His church may walk in the reality of their inheritance as He says that we are to do.
If this is true, that the two are intertwined, why then are we not yet walking in that reality? My suspicion is that we are yet full of unbelief, having been programmed by the counsel of this world event through our churches. Our expectations are small; our faith weak. Another possibility is, of course, our focus and delight which, for most of us, is quite fickle. We vacillate between being captivated by our God and distracted by the world in which we live.
That evening, when heaven broke in on us unexpectedly, were totally and completely captivated by only our awesome and loving God. Nothing mattered but to remain near to Him. Perhaps this is the lifestyle required to live in both realities, both realms, as we were created to do.
This completely consecrated lifestyle is my pursuit and I believe this is also the heart of the Holy Spirit for His people.
"Come Holy Spirit! Come and release us from the things of this world, that captivate us and draw us from our God. Reveal more of the beauty and fragrance of our King, that we may become fascinated only by Him. Empower us to seek first your Kingdom, in all that we do, that all things may be added unto us according to your will. Give us the degree of faith required to access those greater things of Your Kingdom and release them into this fallen world. Empower us to live in fulness of our Kingdom identity and calling that Jesus may be glorified through us. Empower us to be naturally supernatural and advance you Kingdom here upon this earth. Have your own way with us, that we may be a pleasing offering to the Father and the Son! Thank you, Lord, that you answer each prayer that is according to your will. Thank you!"
